Onsite Wastewater Treatment and Disposal System
2011 Association of Canadian Engineering Companies Manitoba Award of Excellence, Environmental Category
The White Lake Campground in the Whiteshell Provincial Park was in need of a new, environmentally sound wastewater treatment system. JRCC utilized the Waterloo Biofilter wastewater treatment system, consisting of attached growth biological trickling filter treatment in below-ground treatment tanks and above-ground UV disinfection.
The system produces a high quality effluent, that is dispersed as a verifiable, clear liquid into a disposal field. Recirculation keeps bacteria active in low flow situations and eliminates short circuiting. The foam medium, which promotes microbial growth for efficient treatment, is ideal for seasonal use applications. Little electricity is used and odours are non-existent due to the contained system and aerobic treatment. This system is the largest Waterloo Biofilter installation in Manitoba.
