Regional Solid Waste Disposal and Recycling Facility
Feasibility Study
JRCC conducted a feasibility study to determine the waste disposal and recycling needs for the Town of the Pas and several surrounding communities, and to determine the feasibility of developing a regional waste disposal and recycling facility to service these communities.
The stakeholders involved the study included the Town of The Pas, the RM of Kelsey, six Manitoba Aboriginal and Northern Affairs communities, four Swampy Cree Tribal Council communities, Manitoba Parks and Natural Areas, and a private cottage association.
A site investigation of each community landfill site was conducted to estimate remaining capacity and to determine waste disposal and recycling requirements. Cost estimates were produced for the various options considered, which included the construction and operation of several transfer stations in the surrounding communities as well as a regional waste disposal ground and recycling facility.
