New Solid Waste Disposal Ground
Award - 2010 Consulting Engineers of Manitoba Award of Merit, Environmental Category
The Town of Lynn Lake solid waste disposal ground (SWDG) was relocated from an area contaminated by mine tailings to an unpolluted, clean site. The new facility met Federal and Provincial regulations, protecting the environment with a geomembrane liner and leachate collection system. The SWDG layout and design incorporates waste management best practices, promoting recycling and waste reduction.
Environmental permits and approvals were solicited prior to construction. An Operation and Maintenance Plan was developed to ensure environmentally responsible operation.
