Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment
JRCC was retained by the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation (NCN) to conduct a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment of the NCN Reserve lands, consisting of 25,000 ha over 18 separate land parcels.
The Phase I ESA was completed in 2017 and included a records review, site visits to several reserve parcels, interviews with First Nation personnel and presentations of results.
A review of past environmental reports and interviews with NCN personnel helped focus the site visits on areas with past environmental contamination. The Phase I ESA provided an inventory of items that presented environmental and health and safety concerns, such as former and current fuel distribution systems, waste disposal activities, wastewater contamination and site security. It also provided recommendations for additional site investigation and site remediation works.
