R.M. of Victoria “Holland Chlorine Dioxide Disinfection”
The Community of Holland, in the RM of Victoria, had water quality issues. Residents were concerned with the unpalatable and odorous water, which discoloured fixtures and ruined laundry.
J. R. Cousin Consultants Ltd. organized and spearheaded a two-phase chlorine dioxide demonstration project and due to unparalleled success, an implementation project ensued. The chlorine dioxide rendered the water palatable, non-odorous and non-staining.
After demonstration testing, chlorine use was terminated and Holland became the first community in Canada to use chlorine dioxide for water disinfection. On behalf of Holland, the R.M. of Victoria received the prestigious 2006 Municipal Innovation Award.
